FAQs on Language Learning

What type of courses do you offer?
Indy Translations offers the following courses: private, public, and semi-private group classes, immersion programs, corporate packages and on-line classes.

How long does it take to become fluent in a language?
The amount of time it takes to learn a given language will depend on many interrelated factors, such as your first language, other languages you may speak, your motivation to learn the language, the amount of time you can dedicate to learning and your natural ability to learn languages. You can learn simple phrases and expressions with only several hours of study, but you will need years of dedicated study to become a fluent speaker.

Can I learn anything in an eight-week class?
Our eight-week classes are designed to provide the student with a basic knowledge of a language or to expand the knowledge they already have. The student will learn general vocabulary and expressions which can be used in a variety of settings.

If I need to learn a language as fast as possible, can you help?
Yes! Indy Translations now offers intensive language immersion programs in English, Spanish, French, Russian, Italian, Chinese, German, Japanese, Arabic and Korean for individuals requiring maximum language proficiency in a one-to-six-week period. The student is in class for 7.5 hours each day, with a provided lunch. A minimum of two different instructors will provide instruction. Our approach is conversational in nature, with grammar reinforced through continuous conversation. Various multimedia sources are also employed to reinforce the student’s retention of vocabulary and grammar. The goal is to surround the student in the target language to the greatest degree possible so that the majority of conversation occurs in that language.

What do you teach in your Accent Reduction classes?
Our Accent Reduction classes are designed to help foreign speakers identify their accent and provide tips and tricks to help to reduce their accent. The class covers articulation, stress and intonation, as well as the basics of English vowels and vowel length. The student will record his or her accent at the beginning and at the end of the class to demonstrate improvement.

Do you offer classes for European travelers?
The Indy Language Center offers group classes for European travelers. These classes will be designed to teach travelers to Western European the basic expressions and vocabulary needed to communicate in French, Italian, German and Spanish.

Do you offer online instruction?
Yes, we do. Private lessons and all of our group language classes may be taken by distance, with students watching the live course via webcam. We are currently developing other online components for our language classes.

Where are your classes held?
Our classes are held at our north side office located at 1001 Third Avenue SW in Carmel or at our South Florida offices at 721 US 1, North Palm Beach. Classes can also be given at your location for an additional fee.

Can I get a group of friends together for a class?
Of course! We will gladly create a special group class upon request, depending upon the availability of our instructors. To set up a class, please call our offices at (317) 566-9458.

Are your teachers native speakers of the language?
Most of our instructors are native speakers, but some are English speakers with strong teaching skills who are fluent in both languages and have proven record of accomplishment in language teaching.

What methods do you use to teach language?
There are many methods purported to be the best for adult second language learning. However, we do not take a “one size fits all” approach at Indy Translations. While understand the need for adult learners to have a basis of grammar, our overall approach to teaching language is conversational in nature.

Do you offer classes for children?
